If you're an artist in the ambient, atmospheric, or neoclassical genres, then we need to talk! If you haven't submitted your music for consideration for airplay on The Relay Station, then now is the time. Please take a moment to read through the information below to make sure your music is an appropriate fit for the program.

The Relay Station is a weekly, 59-minute ambient music program featuring brand new ambient, atmospheric, and neoclassical music from around the globe representing both independent and signed artists. The show is distributed exclusively through e-mail and Substack, as well as to our radio station partners through the Public Radio Exchange, as well as evergreen direct download syndication.

Please fill out this form IN ITS ENTIRETY to the best of your ability. You will be contacted if your album is featured on The Relay Station, but not if your music airs on the program. You can find which episodes your music has aired in by searching through the episode archive for your artist name (I recommend using the search functionality or searching by tag name).

Thank you in advance for submitting your work. I'm excited to give your music a listen, and if I find it to be a good fit, it may be added to the programming.

Requirements:

  • Your song or composition must fall within the AMBIENT, ATMOSPHERIC, or NEOCLASSICAL genre, favoring music that is less chaotic in nature.

    I generally DO NOT PLAY:

    • SOLO PIANO MUSIC,
    • MUSIC WITH PROMINENT DRUMS,
    • SONGS WITH VOCALS,
    • ELECTRONICA/TECHNO/HOUSE/ETC,
    • NOISE, AND
    • DEEPLY AVANT GARDE OR EXPERIMENTAL TRACKS
    While sometimes I make exceptions, most solo piano, electronic music with drums/beats, noise, and songs with vocals will be rejected and will not receive air time. I will listen to them (I listen to everything that comes in), but they will likely be discarded.
  • YOU MUST have permission and/or the rights to distribute your music. If you use a service such as CD Baby or other distributions services, you must ensure that you do not have any automated copyright protection services enabled. CD Baby has routinely become a problem, as with other services, that both use Content ID and automate the process of taking down music appearing elsewhere on the internet, including YouTube and other content platforms.
  • You MUST give Stolace Productions / Michael Tangen (and by extension: The Relay Station, Ambient Discourses, and other programming from Stolace Productions), FREE AND CLEAR permission to play your music on The Relay Station, to use in promotional materials, to store and host in our audio and video archives, and permit us to monetize our programming on any platform on which your music may appear. Because this is a non-profit, volunteer-run program, we will not pay you mechanical royalties for airing your music. However, radio stations that do air our program will report into the standard reporting agencies (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, etc.), at which point you may receive nominal compensation.
  • WE DO NOT ALLOW COVER SONGS OR PERFORMANCES OF OTHER PEOPLE'S MATERIAL unless you are able to provide us written permission from the other artist

By filling in and submitting this form, I grant Michael Tangen and Stolace Productions FREE and CLEAR permission to use and play my music on The Relay Station, Ambient Discourses, syndicated radio programming, digital shorts and reels, and other Stolace Productions programming. I also grant permission to use my music in promotional materials, advertisements, any other content generated for and by Stolace Productions.
