I’ve always had a soft spot for this next artist — s28 from Augusta, Georgia. They captivated me with my first introduction to them back in 2022 with their album “Meditations” and a year later took me to atmospheric levels of bliss with their space-themed release “TS-12”. s28’s sweet spot is constructing soundscapes for that ephemeral time of day between high moon and daybreak — music with a mix of ambient and atmospheric textures, soft downtempo rhythms, and the esthetic of the thin-aired high country. That’s just what you get with s28’s brand new album “The Plains Behind Us” — this sense of dissipation into the wispy light atmosphere of the alpine range, standing in the midst of passing clouds with that cool mist enveloping you. Each track is like a unique vantage point, looking off onto different directions in the open expanse, each offering a slightly different view into s28’s perspectives as an artist. I particularly appreciated the wide spatial sound beds, the light artifacts of sound gracing the full stereoscopic range, the airy and atmospheric drones, his slow swells of mesmerizing pads, and the diverse spaces that each track inhabits. Wilson Trouvé
French Composer Wilson Trouvé is a neoclassical instrumentalist inspired by the likes of Erik Satie, Philip Glass, and Ludovico Einaudi and has amassed a generous number of streams on the music services with over 20 million streams to date. Trouvé has a brand new EP that was composed and recorded in his new home in Bali, and he writes, “I created the new EP [sic] after moving here with my Indonesian wife and our two young children, as we began building a new life together. The five felted piano pieces capture the emotions of this transition; hope and inspiration for what lies ahead, but also a quiet nostalgia for what was left behind.” Trouvé captures the pensive state of change and the reflection that it brings. His compositions are delicate, thoughtful, and have an introspective pace about them, each line offering a brief pause, allowing one’s thoughts to linger for a moment longer. In essence this album is the esthetic of sitting on the sofa with your partner, leisurely flipping through a book of memories and photos, and lovingly reflecting on what was, and dreaming about what could be.
